Ebenezer Alden came to Maine as a young man to help General Knox in the contruction
of his mansion, Montpelier, in Thomaston. Ebenezer then moved to
Union, designed and built a home which still stands. He got involved in various industries
including a small store which now stands on the Alden house property.
Ebenezer's ancesters include John Alden who came to America from England in 1620 at the age of 21 as a passenger of the Mayflower.
Few of Ebenezer's children remained in Union although most stayed in ME. Horatio, the first probate judge of Knox county, moved to Camden. Louisa, Melina and Ebenezer jr. moved to Thomaston. Silas moved to Bangor. Of the remainder most stayed in Union, Augustus remaining at the homestead. James G. was the only child to leave ME and moved to Janesville, WI.
