News & Notices
December 2001
- December 30, 2001 6pm. 593-9397 had trouble taking calls, it
would answer and then go dead. We are aware of this and reset the
equipment and intend to work with the manufacturer on Monday.
Update Dec 31, 2001, 10:30am. The manufacturer has a
software update and wants a day of patience from us for it to be released.
We as asking for the software sooner. In the mean time, callers may get a
busy or fast busy.
- December 24, 2001 Mail that is flagged by our spam detection
system is now being marked PJM->. This stands for probably junk mail.
This is shorter and less noticable for people without their own filters.
Apologies go out to those people who already have the old phrase in their
filter configurations.
- December 19, 2001 A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) document
is available to help answer questions regarding our spam catching system.
We would encourage those interested in this topic to read this.
MIS anti-spam FAQ
- December 19, 2001 Wiscasset (882) and Bath (442) numbers are
without power right now and ringing busy. When power is restored, they
will be working again.
- December 17, 2001 Users may notice that some email is now being
marked JUNKMAIL in the subject. This is to aid in the detection of spam
and viruses. We will not be deleting it for you without your
consent, we will not be modifying the body of the email. You may
filter it yourself. We will also be providing optional free filters. We
will not be deleting it without your consent. There is a very small
percentage, probably less than one percent, of mail that gets incorrectly
marked JUNKMAIL. We will be providing instructions over the next couple of
days that will help you and us remedy that. These rare instances are
usually the result of a misconfigured email server on the other end and
can be easily fixed by a competent administrator. Keep a lookout as we
will be producing a FAQ on this and many useful tools over the next few
days.
- December 16-17, 2001 During the evening of the 16th, 785-6622
stopped working, and we sent someone to Union to restart it. During the night
it failed again. 9:25am - Someone is on the way to restart it and hook up
a cable for us to remotely diagnose it if it fails again.
- December 16, 2001 During the night, there was a problem which
was causing email to be delayed due to our antispam software changes. This
has been corrected.
- December 12, 2001 10:50am - 11:20am. dns.midcoast.com had to be
restarted because ram memory settings were not set properly when it was
rebooted last night. (Only a small amount of its memory was being used).
We corrected this problem from the office and rebooted it at 10:50am.
When it did not come back in five minutes, a housecall was in order, and I
found the stupidest error message of all time holding things up.
Keyboard Error - Press F1 to continue. The server is properly
running now and all memory is properly used.
- December 12, 2001 1am. Power is out in Owls Head. Things were
run on generator until power returned. Some equipment had to be restarted,
but all is fine at 2:30am.
- December 3, 2001 10:00am - Verizon is working on 593-9397 and
the numbers that go with it. This work is causing calls to not work. We
are aware of it and are keeping in contact with them. We will update this
when they get it fixed. 4:00pm - This should be fixed now, and we
will keep an eye on it during the next few days.
