December 2005
- December 28, 2005 Damariscotta DSL customers have been
experiencing an outage this morning. The outage is related to ongoing
work of Tidewater fixing a performance problem that started Friday. They
are continuing to work on the issue at 10:00am.
- December 26, 2005 During Christmas, one of our seven
mailservers for @midcoast.com customers also experienced a failed
motherboard (leaking capacitors again). This provided email for
usernames starting with e,f, and g. This problem caused a malfunction
where the server responded to our monitoring system fine, but
did not respond to customer email checks properly. Otherwise, it
may have been fixed sooner. This work was fixed at 12:45pm. It may
be a few hours before it gets done with a backlog of queued email.

which service the repeater for Wayfarer Marine and our Platinum service

Meanwhile, we suggest using your back-up dial up account.
- December 15, 2005 On the www.midcoast.com
homepage, a new link was added for MailMan Lite. This is the
older simpler version of mailman without support for address
books, folders, and other options. It does a great job at simply letting
you get into your mailbox for removing large messages or sending a quick
email.
We have also installed a self-issued SSL certificate for use
with MailMan. When presented with a message about the certificate,
check "accept this certificate permanently". This will provide
high quality encryption of your webmail activity. To use the SSL
encrypted webmail, click on the ssl link next to the MailMan software
you wish to use.

The Internet Acceleractor server was reset again this morning. Though we
installed new software last week that should've fixed the problem, still
we have to reset the server every 12 hours or so. We continue to
investigate. Accelerator users who find they can connect but can neither
browse the web nor check email are advised to shut the Accelerator
software off. (Right-click the Venturi icon in the lower right-hand
corner and choose "Exit.") No one will be billed for the Accelerator
this month.
- December 1, 2005
The MIS Internet Accelerator was repaired this afternoon with a
software upgrade from Venturi.
North Haven wireless service was restored by replacing some
networking equipment on the island.
230-3600 and 832-3060 dialup numbers were rerouted back to
their original modem server after the equipment for that was serviced.
