News & Notices
July 2002
- July 31, 2002 Verizon will be reducing the number of lines on
our regular 236, 593, 338, 882, and 832 numbers. Please begin to use the
1-500-699-7201 and 1-500-699-7200 numbers instead.
- July 23, 2002 5:15pm. Power is out at Benner Hill, presumably
due to lightning. We are investigating. This also affects Union.
- July 23, 2002 4:40pm. 845-3050 equipment was reset in
Washington. After lightning went through customers got errors dialing in.
We reset it and tested it and it is fine now.
- July 17, 2002 5:50-5:55pm, and 7:50-8:00pm. The wireless
access-point serving the Rockland courthouse was reset. We have
experienced trouble with this and will be replacing before the week is
over. Update: July 19, 2002: This equipment has been replaced with faster
and better equipment. This will make the consistently faster for people
using the Rockland courthouse. Other upgrades are in the works also.
- July 16, 2002 Customers with email boxes on
kona.midcoast.com/free.midcoast.com can change the spam detection
preferences on their mailbox. The link is on the help pages as well as here. You can
whitelist and blacklist certain senders, as well as change the threshold
of how it detects spam. If you wish to disable the detection, set the
threshold to a higher number such as 100. Unfortunately, we do not have
this customization software on all of our servers yet. If it works well
for everyone, we may put it on all of them. Scott Dunlop, who works at
MIS, made the web interface. The spam detection software, called Spam
Assassin, is popular and well tested open-source software for servers on
the internet.
- July 9, 2002 3:00pm. Westport and Wiscasset are back in
service. More pieces were replaced today due to last week's lightning
damage, and things are fine now.
- July 8, 2002 5:35-5:45pm. The wireless access-point serving the
Rockland courthouse was reset. We have experienced trouble with this and
will be replacing it as soon as possible.
- July 5, 2002 Westport and Wiscasset wireless users are
experiencing trouble this morning. We are investigating that and hope to
have it fixed by 11am. Update: There appears to be some serious lightning
damage and repair will take longer than expected. We will be performing
work on the tower to fix this on Monday. Update - We worked on things
Monday and got some things replaced. Other items will be replaced on
Tuesday and this should get it going again. The other tenant at the tower
also lost several valuable pieces of gear. We were told the Westport tower
received several direct hits on the 4th.
- July 2, 2002 Liberty's 33.6k number was out for a little while
this morning, presumably due to the lightning and bad weather. Our friends
at Liberty Graphics have reset the T1 line for us and things are fine
again.
- July 1, 2002 Afternoon - If things progress according to
schedule, the kona.midcoast.com and free.midcoast.com email accounts will
be moved to a newer server. This should not affect your use of them and
you should not have to change settings. A few people may have specified
the mail server by IP number, they should change it from 206.26.226.34 to
206.26.224.130 when this change occurs. Check here for an update and then
call the office if there are any problems as a result of this.
Update: This was completed in about ten minutes time at 2:30pm.
