Midcoast Internet Solutions
System News & Notices
September 2001
- September 26, 2001 Verizon is still working on fixing the T1 to
Camden. Meanwhile, a falled tree on Molynoux road has taken out power to
Ragged Mountain - the backup link for downtown Camden wireless. The power has
been fixed, and someone is going up the mountain to check our equipment.
- September 25, 2001 11am Some wireless users in Camden are
having trouble. This is due to a T1 problem most likely in Owls Head. We
are working on it now. Verizon will be working on it. In the mean time, we
have rerouted traffic via Ragged Mountain until it is fixed.
- September 18, 2001 Windows NT / 2000 users should check out
this. W32.nimda.a.mm Worm It spreads
via improperly secured or updated Windows 95 / 98 / ME / NT / 2000
computers and via attachements. Several MIS customers have already been
infected and our logfiles are showing a great deal of attempts at our
servers from all over the internet. MIS does not use Windows servers, so
we are not vulnerable, but customers owned or maintained equipment might
be. This is bigger than code red. More news is
here.
- September 16, 2001 9:50pm - 11:30pm . Grounds.midcoast.com,
which had been having trouble, was diagnosed with hardware trouble. We
replaced the machine, and also put a newer version of Linux on it as well.
Traffic graphs and non-essential software on grounds will be restored
during the business day.
- September 15, 2001 3:45pm. Grounds.midcoast.com was fixed. This
is the computer that controls all the traffic for our wireless network as
well as Union and some of our dialup numbers. This had been misbehaving
for an hour or so this afternoon and caused some people to not be able to
get onto the internet.
- September 12, 2001 Wusage, our reporting software for virtual
domain customers, is in the process of being upgraded. If you are a
virtual domain customer and try to get to www.yourdomain.com/wusage, can't
get there, and it was working before, try www.yourdomain.com:2396 . The
username is the same name you use to FTP into the server. The password is
available from MIS staff. (please email help@midcoast.com with the
pertinent information needed or call 594-8277)
- September 11, 2001 This afternoon people using the 563-8999
number in Damariscotta and Lincolville DSL had trouble. This was due to a
problem with one of the T1s going into Damariscotta. We have redirected
traffic over the other T1 and things are working again while we
investigate.
- September 2, 2001 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Power was out on Benner Hill
in Rockland. This caused people who feed their wireless from this tower to be
out of service during this time. The outage outlasted our UPS there.
People affected would be Union dialup service 785-6622 and wireless,
Matinicus, Metinic, Westport, and people who connect to the Benner Hill
tower.
- September 2, 2001 Some people in Camden are having wireless
trouble. (Others are fine). We're aware of it and working on it, and will post
details when we can. Sept 4, 2001, most people are fixed and running well.
